It\u2019s by Anand Iyer who is\u2014or, perhaps, was\u2014a graduate student and therefore is constantly reading papers. When you\u2019re faced with reading and writing papers, one of the must-have tools is some sort of document management system.<\/p>\n<p>Iyer\u2019s solution is to use Emacs, Org-mode, John Kitchin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jkitchin\/org-ref\">org-ref<\/a>, and Sebastian Christ\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rudolfochrist\/interleave\">interleave<\/a>. I\u2019ve written about all of those before but Iyer\u2019s post ties them all together into a compelling workflow. If you haven\u2019t already seen it, take a look at Kitchin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2t925KRBbFc\">video on org-ref<\/a>. It shows how easy it is to add papers to your bibliography and\u2014at the same time\u2014download copies of the PDF.<\/p>\n<p>Interleave lets you takes notes on the paper you\u2019re reading. The notes are synchronized to the part of the paper they\u2019re about. It\u2019s a great way of making notes about a paper or, really, any PDF document.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, nothing can make reading or writing papers easy but using the tools Iyer discusses can largely automate most of the administrative chores. Iyer\u2019s post is interesting and well worth a few minutes of your time.
