Magnar Sveen has just posted <a href=\"http:\/\/emacsrocks.com\/\/e14.html\">Episode 14 of Emacs Rocks!<\/a>. This time it&#8217;s about <code>paredit<\/code>, an extremely useful but often confusing minor mode for dealing with S-expressions. Like Sveen, I also had a <a href=\"http:\/\/irrealblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/secret-of-paredit-as-i-mentioned_18.html\">hard time getting used to paredit<\/a> but once you figure it out you won&#8217;t want to live without it.<\/p>\n<p>Sveen makes a helpful observation: <code>paredit<\/code> is not about adding and deleting text; it&#8217;s about manipulating the tree that constitutes a Lisp program. It tries to maintain a valid tree at all times. I found that the key to making things work\u2014as detailed in the above linked post from my old blog\u2014is understanding slurpage and barfage.<\/p>\n<p>Sveen covers that as well as several other really useful tricks.
