This is usually, but not always, what you want. It turns out you can control whether or not the transliteration takes place but it\u2019s not obvious how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Over at <a href=\"https:\/\/scripter.co\">A Scripter\u2019s Notes<\/a> there\u2019s a post that describes <a href=\"https:\/\/scripter.co\/straight-and-curved-quotes-in-emacs-lisp\/?utm_source=atom_feed\">how to control the transliteration of quotes<\/a>. It\u2019s not too hard but it is a little fiddly. You won\u2019t have to worry about this unless you\u2019re writing functions or apps that other people are going to be using and then, truth to tell, only if you have a perfectionist approach to the presentation of your text output.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, I <i>do<\/i> have that approach so I\u2019m glad to know how to deal with the issue.
